Tony Smith & Sara Brock
Tony Smith
Anthony (Tony) Smith wanted to be an architect growing up. Born and raised in Indiana, he graduated high school from Beach Grove and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University.
Tony describes his wife as “the adorable Nancy Smith, known by most of you as Mayor Nancy Smith”. They have been married for over 20 years as a blended family with five children, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Tony also spent some time holding public offices as a Pinal County Supervisor and Mayor of Maricopa. As Mayor of one of Arizona’s youngest cities, he has always been excited about helping non-profits. “When a community grows as fast as Maricopa has grown, it’s essential to grow your non-profits too”. With his passion for non-profits, it was an easy decision to say “yes” to be a dancer.
Fun fact about Tony is that he is an avid hiker and has a goal of completing the 800-mile Arizona Trail. To date, he has completed ¼ of the trail that started at the Utah/Arizona border and will end at Mexico. Tony is ready to trade in his hiking boots for dancing shoes!
Sara Brock
Sara Brock has lived in Maricopa since she was 8 years old when her family moved to the community. Family and friends associate Sarah with butterflies as her love of these beautiful, winged insects can improve her mood at any time of the day. She began her dance journey then, enrolling in classes with Alyssa’s Little Dancers, primarily focusing on ballet and pointe. She continued her dance education at Maricopa High School where she was fortunate enough to be chosen as a member of the performance group level class and broaden her dance knowledge and skills. Alyssa realized a love of creating choreography as part of this dance program.
Sarah currently works as a paraprofessional at Saddleback Elementary School in Maricopa, and a teacher at Alyssa’s Little Dancers. Sara’s biggest goal is to be able to choreograph for many different events so this is the perfect opportunity for me to test my abilities. She is so excited to be a part of this event, she thought, “it would be fun to dance for this kind of production level and to be able to choreograph something a little difference than what I’m used to.”
Although she is nervous, Sara’s fresh new choreography and enthusiasm will make this team float like butterflies and sting like bees on their quest for the mirror ball!
